Chennai 22 August : The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company (Tangedco) is planning to separate power lines for agriculture across the state to minimize the losses on power lines.According to Tangedco’s officials, the company’s power line losses are estimated at 13.5 percent.
There are currently 1,686 feeders through which electricity is distributed to commercial, domestic industrial and industrial connections.
Tangedco has now made the decision to disconnect 475 connections to agriculture from the operating feeders.This forms part of the central government’s revamped sector plan to cut transmission losses.
According to Tangedco officials the 99 feeders for agriculture will be separated from other feeders, transformers, and transformers, and the cost of this project is anticipated to be around 534.86 crore.534.86 crore.
The power company will replace old lines over an area of 206.50 kilometers with an investment of around 15.41 crore.New poles could also be put in place to support this.
Tangedco expects to reduce transmission losses on power lines from 13.5 percent to 11.92 percent, in a gradual manner through the segregation of feeders, as well as new transmission lines.
Officials have told IANS that analyzing the power units used to power agricultural connections could be simpler through the separation of power lines.
According an official will be of aid in tackling the issue of low voltages being applied connections to agricultural lines.
Farmers, however, claimed that Tangedco must provide free power for farmers.

He further demanded Tangedco officials be able to identify unauthorised tapping of power and unintentional lifting of irrigation in riverbeds , as a lot of farmers are affected.
