K.Ashoka Bengaluru 21 Aug : In contrast to its neighboring states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu, Karnataka has always taken a cautious approach to providing freebies to the people.Although the state is slowly catching up with the current trend however, it has not taken a risky move in the direction of handing out freebies.

The inhabitants of Karnataka were treated to the pleasure of freebies in the form of electricity for free to farmers.

In the Congress regime of the Chief Minister S Bangarappa, free electricity to farmers with borewells with a maximum of 10 HP was promised.

As a result, thousands of farmers were benefited, and they extended the facilities for irrigation to their land that was dry.This was considered to be revolutionary in the time of the present day Karnataka and was later adopted by many states in the neighboring states.

Bommai has also stated that his government would like to enable Karnataka to contribute of one trillion dollars or more in order to achieve the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of making India five trillion dollars economy.

He said that the poor have benefited greatly of the “Annabhagya” scheme (providing free rice to families) which was introduced during the administration of Siddaramaiah.

With the assurance of food supplies the poor can concentrate on the education of their children.

Every scheme has its pros and cons.A lot of the poor are able to build homes due to the lack of the assurance of foodsecurity, Bayyapura said.

Political analyst Basavaraj Sulibhavi stated that ours is a welfare and not one that is a police state.

It is the responsibility of the state to meet the requirements of the citizens.If the people are left to suffer, this will be a source of shame to the government.

The use of the term “freebie” isn’t sustainable.Within the scope of the word”freebie” are the requirements of the civic society.

Under the democratic system as well as the Constitution the government will need to ensure that it is fulfilling of commitments, he added.

However, ensuring the lives and well-being of people is different from engaging people with freebies to get involved in politics is a different thing.

We have reservations about this.

Karnataka has not been involved in voting bank politics with freebies.

The state has remained in balance and discretion up to now.
