Mumbai 21 August : Director-actress Romola Garai who is Mary Tudor, Queen of England and Ireland (July 1553 until November 1558) also known as ‘Blood’, was a part of the drama of her role in the drama of historical significance “Becoming Elizabeth’.The series stars Alicia Von Rittberg as Queen Elizabeth I.In discussing Mary I Romola stated: “She was forced into being a mixture of different things due to circumstances.She was extremely religious, evidently however, she was a smart sophisticated, sensitive, and admirable woman.She could be a lot of fun.”
Romola said: “People often spoke about her ability to be funny and clever however, she was in a terrible situation in which her mother was thrown out by her father’s King Henry VIII, when he met Anne Boleyn, the later second bride, and was then excommunicated.Mary was taken away from her mother with who she had an extremely close relationship, when she was of 12 and she never seen her again.”
Romola has been a part of TV shows like “Emma,” a American biographical drama film ‘Amazing Grace’ as well as TV serial The Crimson Petal’ and The White’.
“Becoming Elizabeth The film depicts the struggles of Elizabeth prior to the time she was crowned the throne of England.
In a detailed discussion of the character of Romola, she said: “She basically spent the remainder of her life either scared or having to constantly praise her father who was a savage man.She was always in constant fear for her life.This can affect your personality, so she may also be a hyper-vigilant and paranoid.
“She was prone to violence in attempts to maintain control of situations and her anxiety and fear manifested in later in her life.”
Directed by Anya Reiss, the series is scheduled to debut its Indian debut on the 26th of August at Lionsgate Play.
