Finland, Sweden, Turkey to host NATO negotiations for NATO’s expansion

Helsinki 20th August : The representatives of Finland, Sweden and Turkey will meet during the month of August to discuss expansion of NATO towards the North, Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto told reporters in Helsinki.
Discussions in Finland should continue with the help of the memorandum signed by the three countries signed shortly prior to the NATO summit in Madrid in June DPA news agency quoted Haavisto as saying on Friday.

Prior to the deal, Turkey had been blocking Sweden and Finland’s plans to join the Western military alliance.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan has claimed that two Scandinavian nations of hosting the members of the Syrian YPG Kurdish militia and those of the Gulenist movement.

The YPG is believed as having links to terrorism by certain but is believed by certain Western nations as being the most powerful combat force in Syria to fight Islamist militant groups.

The members of the Gulenist network are accused of orchestrating the unsuccessful coup attempt in 2016 that resulted in the deaths of more than 300 people.

The agreement promises Finland as well as Sweden countries have promised Turkey as well as assistance against threats to national security.
