Bengaluru 17 August : The Idgah Maidan row resurfaced in Bengaluru on Wednesday following the BJP’s national secretary C.T.Ravi stated that should Ganesh festival is not celebrated in the area, the possibility of the offering of namaz in the area could also be considered a violation.Speaking to reporters in the present, BJP MLA Ravi said the Idgah Maidan is the property of the revenue department, and that the decisions on the site must be made by it.
The festival of Ganesh celebrations began under the British rule, he claimed.
“When permission is denied to install Ganesh idol in the premises of Idgah Maidan it becomes an issue of rights.
The revenue department will need to decide on giving permission. And I’d suggest that permission needs to be granted,” Ravi said.
“I would like authorities to grant permission to celebrate the Ganesh festival. If they deny it there will be questions regarding how people can be permitted to offer the namaz at that time? If namaz is permitted, Ganesh festival should also be permitted,” Ravi said.
Ganesh festival is scheduled to be observed starting on August 31 across the nation.Hindu organisations are planning for the celebration in the area of Idgah Maidan, which has become an unpopular place.
Congress MLA Zameer Ahamad Khan had said Ganesh festival celebrations should not be allowed to take place during the Idgah Maidan.
