Hyderabad, Aug 17 : Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Working President K.T.Rama Rao on Wednesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and reverse the Gujarat government’s order to release 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano case. “If you truly believed that you intended to speak about respecting women and women, I we urge you to intervene and repeal the Gujarat Govt remission order releasing 11 rapists.” KTR, as Rama Rao is well-known as, tweeted.
He was in reference to his speech by the Prime Minister on Independence Day.
In his speech from the ramparts of the historical Red Fort, he had called for a change in the mindset towards women.
Modi declared that reverence for women is a key factor of India’s development and emphasized the need to provide support to ‘Nari Shakti’ .Modi also called for a change in the attitude towards women in every day life.
“Sir I find it a bit nauseous to put it lightly and in opposition to MHA order.
I urge you to show courage in the eyes of the Nation,” KTR said in another tweet.
“Sir I also enjoin you to make the necessary amendments to the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and The Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) in a manner that no criminal can obtain bail through the judiciary.
“Strong laws are the only way to ensure that Judiciary will be able to deliver quickly and perform at its peak,” the TRS leader added.
On Monday all 11 life imprisonment defendants in the Bilkis Bano case of gang rape as well as the murder of seven members of her family on January 21 in 2008, were released of the Godhra sub-jail following the Gujarat government granted their release under its remission policy.
