Guterres had a meeting with South Korea President Yoon Suk-yeol on the weekend, Yonhap news agency reported.

According to an English-language article of the Korean Central News Agency, Kim stated “I cannot help but express my profound regret for the statements of the UN secretary-general , which are utterly lacking fairness and impartiality, and are in violation of the terms of his duty, as stated in the UN Charter regarding the subject of the Korean peninsula.”

“The so-called CVID that is promoted by the U.S.and its vassal forces, is simply an infringement on the sovereignty of the DPRK because it demands unilateral disarmament and Secretary General Guterres is likely aware that the DPRK has completely opposed it, without any tolerance,” the vice foreign minister said. The DPRK is the acronym used to describe the North’s official name, which is the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Kim said that the North’s nuclear program was its “inevitable decision” to protect its own security. He asked Guterres to “be cautious in engaging in such risky remarks and actions as “pouring gasoline on fire” in the midst of the “extremely critical crisis” in the Korean Peninsula.
