Boult claimed that the chance to spend more time with his family in the next few years was a factor in making the decision.”This is a very difficult decision for me to make and I’d like to express my gratitude to NZC for their assistance in making this decision,” he was quoted as saying.

“Playing in cricket for my home country was my dream of my childhood and I’m very satisfied of what I’ve managed to accomplish with the Black Caps over the past 12 years.

“Ultimately the decision rests with my wife Gert and our three sons.Family is always the main motivator for me , and I’m at ease with prioritizing family and preparing ourselves for the future following cricket.”

The left-armer has racked up an incredible 169 wickets for New Zealand from a 93-match 50-over career that began over 10 years in the past.

New Zealand Cricket CEO David White acknowledged that while he was sad in losing Boult as an official player, he departs on good terms and with the best wishes.

“Trent’s been a major contributor to the Black Caps since his Test debut in the latter half of 2011 and is now regarded as one of the top cricketers in multi-format in the world. We’re extremely satisfied of what he’s accomplished,” White said.

“We’ve been in contact with a number of times and I’m confident that Trent is aware that, in terms of the selection process, NZC will continue to place a high priority of the players with either domestic or central contracts.”
