Dubai 9 August : Australia opener Beth Mooney has returned to the top place for batters in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings after losing it to captain Meg Lanning two weeks ago.Mooney completed a great performance in the Commonwealth Games with a 41-ball 61 against India in the final match to be the highest run-scoring player of the competition with 179 runs.After scoring scores of 70 not out against Pakistan and 36 against New Zealand this past week, she is now 18 points ahead of Lanning with 743 rating points.
The 28-year-old has landed the top spot for the third time in her career.She has previously been ranked No.1 from March 8th 2020 to March 21, 2021 and then from September 9, 2021 until July 26, 2022.
Teammate Tahlia McGrath from Mooney’s side has been on a roll since her meteoric rise.After 14 games, she boasts a batting average of 93.75 and an average bowling of 13.66 which gives her a top-five spot with bat for the very first time, and 12th position in the all-rounders ‘ list.
India’s Jemimah Rodrigues Her revival saw her score the score of 146 runs in Birmingham and helped her to climb seven spots and re-enter the top 10 batters, for the first time since the start of October 2021.
England might have been unable to win an Olympic medal but their bowlers hold the top three places in the rankings of bowlers.
The fast bowler Katherine Brunt has swapped places with Sarah Glenn and is in second place her highest position in 11 years.Left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone continues to be at the top with a strong advantage of 34 points ahead of Brunt.
South Africa batters Anneke Bosch (up five places to 20th) and Tazmin Brits (up six places to 22nd) are the other players to make significant traction among batters, while Pakistan’s Javeria Khan and India’s Deepti Sharma have each gained two slots to climb to 32nd and 36th respectively.
The most prolific wicket-taker in the Commonwealth Games was Renuka Singh of India with 11 wickets, which has earned her with an appearance in the top 20 for the very first time.
Fast bowlers Shabnim Ismail of South Africa and Megan Schutt of Australia have moved up two spots each to take the fourth and fifth spots in the bowlers’ ranking.Left-arm spinners Nonkululeko Malaba of South Africa and Radha Yadav of India are currently in eighth and 14th positions respectively.
In other moves New Zealand’s Haley Jensen has galloped 31 slots to take 13th place as Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner (22nd) and South Africa’s Nadine de Klerk (28th) have also made significant progress.
Gardner was a standout with the bat (96 runs at an average strike rate of 137.14) and ball (five wickets at an economy rate of 4.20) and is currently in second place in all-rounders, just behind Sophie Devine, who captained New Zealand to the bronze medal.
