Agartala 8 August : Opposition Congress sponsored 24 hours of shutdown in three of Tripura’s eight districts has evoked some reaction on Monday.Around 300 Congress employees, including some leaders were detained.
A few unintentional incidents were reported in Unakoti, Dhalai and North Tripura districts.
The Congress declared a shut down in favor of their 16-points demand which includes the cancellation of Agnipath scheme and as well as punishments for those who have attacked the workers of the opposition party and offering Mudra loans to youth who are unemployed.
Police said that approximately 300 Congress employees, including local leaders were arrested for obstructing the normal life, including the opening of markets and shops.
According to police reports, in certain areas of the three districts markets, shops and educational institutions were shut and only few vehicles were spotted on the roads.
In the majority of the three northern Tripura districts, life was not significantly affected the way it was described by a police official.
Two suspects have been arrested in Kailashahar in Unakoti district, for slapping a woman and his son.
Congress leaders, for their part said that the shutdown succeeded, and people reacted in a spontaneous manner to protest the “BJP government’s poor governance”.
