Rome 8 August : The remains of a World War II bomb was detonated in northern Italy on Sunday, in an operation that saw 3,000 people being evacuated for security reasons, local media reported.The bomb weighing 450 kg was found in the Po river in the vicinity of Mantua around 160 kilometers south-east of Milan according to according to the news agency dpa in a report citing ANSA.
According to ANSA, Army specialists removed the detonator from the bomb prior to transporting the device into a cave approximately 45 kilometers away from in which it detonated in controlled fashion.
A total of 3,000 residents have been evacuated from the area where the bomb was found.
They returned back to their homes in the late afternoon.
