Washington 8th, August : The fourth group of human remains was found in Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in US where the water level has plummeted to levels that are unprecedented in an extended drought of 22 years, officials have said.Park Rangers responded to a phone call regarding the finding of the remains of Swim Beach at Lake Mead National Recreation Area on Saturday The National Park Service said on Sunday.
They were assisted in their investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department dive team, as reported by the DPA news agency.
The remains of a skeleton belong to the second set discovered at Swim Beach.
Authorities did not provide any additional information about the findings.A spokesperson with the Clark County Office of the Coroner-Medical Examiner was unable to be reached for a comment.
It is the fourth time that remains of human beings have been found in the lake which supplies the water needed by 25 million people as well as millions of acres of agricultural land in various states in the Southwest including California.
The first group of bones was discovered in May in the barrel of a gun and could have belonged to a victim of gunshots killed in the 1970s or the 1980s, officials have said.
Within a week another set of remains was discovered in Callville Bay.
The third set was retrieved in the last month on the lake’s Swim Beach.
Authorities believe that the region’s severe drought as well as the lake’s declining levels of water will prompt them to find more remains.
There is no evidence of the remains found are recognizable.
Alongside human remains, receding waters also revealed watercraft as well as an old boat from World War II which was used in the lake prior to its sinking.
