Tesla is a fraud when it comes to Autopilot and full self-driving: US agency

San Francisco, Aug 7 : The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in California has accused Elon Musk’s company Tesla of making false claims regarding the company’s Autopilot as well as Full Self-Driving (FSD) features.
The agency stated in its report that Tesla “wrongly implies” that cars that are equipped with the technology operate autonomously, according to The Verge.

The DMV directed the driver to Tesla’s Autopilot page that states that the FSD system “is designed to allow for long and short distance trips with no intervention from the driver in the driver’s seat” and is capable of “navigating urban streets as well as complex intersections and freeways.”

The agency has filed two separate complaints, claiming Tesla has made “untrue or false” claims regarding its self-driving capabilities.

Drivers must pay an extra $12,000 for Tesla’s FSD system, which includes with auto-parking, automatic changing lane and the capability to call a car from a parking spot to the spot they’re standing.

“Instead of simply identifying product or brand names the Autopilot’ and ‘Full-Self-Driving Capability descriptions and labels indicate that vehicles with the ADAS (advanced driver-assistance system) features will function as autonomous vehicles however, vehicles with these ADAS features were not available have been autonomous prior to the release of these advertisements, and are not able to currently be operated as autonomous vehicles.” the DMV states in the form.

“These ads are a deceitful practice.”

On Tesla’s Q2 earnings call Musk declared that the cost of FSD Beta might go up at the end of this year.

“The price of FSD is tremendously expensive, and is not known by the majority of people.

It is currently insanely affordable and is a good investment if FSD is realized and it does,” Musk said.

This week he declared that “we’re still attempting to see widespread use of FSD beta in the coming year in North America.
