Jaipur/New Delhi, August 5 : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Rajasthan’s Rajsamand constituency Diya Kumari on Friday introduced the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2022 in the Lok Sabha. She demanded the inclusion of the Rajasthani language in the Constitution by altering the eighth Schedule of the Constitution. In a reference to the historical significance of the Rajasthani language, she said that despite being rich in traditions the language has been largely ignored at a national level which could be threatening its survival.
She stated that it was because the Rajasthani language was acknowledged as a distinct language by Sahitya Akademi and University Grants Commission.
“This language is taught in the Rajasthan State Board of Secondary Education. However however, the Rajasthani language has not yet received the status of a national language,” she said.
Diya Kumari further stated that it’s been a long-standing request of people of Rajasthan to incorporate the language in the eighth schedule of the Constitution.
“The skilled students of this language are not able to effectively use it.New opportunities for employment could also be created in the event that the Rajasthani language is included in the eighth schedule and receives proper national recognition. In the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2022, the entries 17 to 22 of the Eighth Schedule may be renumbered as entries 18 to 23 respectively.
Rajasthani should be added in the 17th spot before the entry that is renumbered as 18” she said.
