Indian Railways comes to mind when the name of any train is mentioned.But did you know that there is another railway in India? It is not under the Government of India.Its operation is still going on privately.Its name is Shakuntala Railway.
It is a narrow gauge railway line located in Maharashtra.Its total length is about 190 km.A passenger train runs on this track.
The train stops at about 17 stations.
This 100-year-old 5-coach train is powered by a steam engine.It has been powered by a diesel engine since 1994.
Indian Railways is paying a private company in Britain 12 million 20 million rupees in royalties each year for using this narrow gauge track.
Despite several attempts by the Indian Railways to take it under its control, it was not possible.
