In Kalayur Village, located in Puducherry, men are considered as the Kitchen King.For the last 5 centuries i.e.almost 500 years, men have dominated the kitchens here.This village is 30 km away from Puducherry and a great chef is found in every house here.There are about 80 houses in this village and the cooking of men in each house is part of the tradition there.
According to an estimate, there are 200 male cooks in the village.Every cook also has to undergo rigorous training.
Men in the village need to take 10 years of long training to become the best cooks.The information of every recipe (South Indian Recipe) is given to them by the Chief Chef.
All these cooks take orders for cooking at weddings and parties.The cooks here can feed about 1000 people at a time.
The elderly chef of the village remembers that men who were fond of cooking started coming forward to work as cooks.He told that farming work was very difficult in the old days.
The second thing was also that no one had a job opportunity.In such a situation, the men of the village thought it better to be a cook.
It is estimated that there are about 200 male cooks in the village.All these cooks also take food order at weddings and parties.
