Melbourne, January 1, : .Emma Raducanu, a British tennis player, has pulled out from the Australian Open warm up tournament.
She had just tested positive for COVID-19 and was in isolation, according to the organizers.Raducanu was 19 years old when she became the first person to qualify for a Grand Slam by winning the US Open title in September.
She had also pulled out from the Mubadala World Tennis Championship Exhibition in Abu Dhabi after contracting the virus.
The Melbourne Summer Set was her scheduled competition.
It is an Australian Open warm up event that runs from January 3-9.
Raducanu, a participant in the Australian Open’s first Melbourne event said that “the timing is too early for me” after he had just returned from isolation.
Now, the world number 19 will be playing in Sydney the week before the Australian Open begins on January 17.
Raducanu, an MBE was awarded in the New Year Honours List earlier.She broke the 44-year British wait to have a woman’s Grand Slam singles champion by winning the US Open in September.
