Raipur/Bhopal on Dec 30, 2018 : .Kalicharan Maharaj, a religious leader, was taken into custody from Madhya Pradesh for making disparaging remarks about Mahatma Gandhi during an event called ‘Dharma Sansad,’ in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur.A Congress leader Pramod dube filed an FIR against Kalicharan at Tikrapara Police Station in Raipur.He was also present at the “Dharma Sansad”.
Kalicharan (he) was booked under the IPC sections 505(2) (creating or promoting hatred of others) and 294 (obscene act in a place).In a statement, the Chhattisgarh Police stated that they had also added charges to section 153A (1), 153B (1) and other IPC sections based on investigation.
The religious leader was arrested by the Chhattisgarh Police in Madhya Pradesh, near Khajuraho on Thursday morning.
He (Kalicharan), was at a rented apartment near Bageswar Dham in Madhya Pradesh, approximately 25 kilometers from Khajuraho.
A Raipur officer stated that he was arrested by Raipur police at four o’clock on Thursday.
Kalicharan was an invited guest to the “Dharma Sansad” event in Raipur, December 25-26.
He allegedly insulted Mahatma Gandhi and extolled his assassin Nathuram Godse.
However, Kalicharan was arrested by the Chhattisgarh Police and this has caused a dispute between two neighboring governments — the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government and the Congress-led Chhattisgarh.
Madhya Pradesh’s Home Minister Narottam Misra called the action of Chhattisgarh Police a violation of inter-state protocols and directed the highest cop in the state to get clarification from Chhattisgarh DGP.
The police were justified by Chhattisgarh Chief minister Bhupesh baghel, who stated that “no rules had been broken.” The prescribed guidelines were followed and action was taken.
