New Delhi, December 30, : .The Centre will soon launch a program that provides rations subsidized to the homeless and people who do not have ration cards. The development of the system is at its last stages.It will then be tested.”The whole system basically aims to capture homeless and shelter-less destitute people who may not have ration card,” Sudhanshu Pandey, Secretary of Food and Public Distribution told a press conference.
The state governments might not have given them ration cards if they were unable to prove their identity or lack of a home address.
Pandey stated that all these problems will be dealt with.
A Ministry official said that the new system, which is being institutionalized, will fill the gap of the most vulnerable sections of the population.
The officer stated that it would be officially announced later.
This fiscal, the Centre will provide a subsidy not less than Rs 4 Lakh crore.The subsidy includes a regular subsidy of Rs 2.25 crore crore and an additional Rs 1.47 crore crore as part of Prime Minister Gareeb Kaleeb Anna Yojana (PMGKAY).In answer to questions about subsidies, another officer said that the subsidy was worth Rs 5.29 crore.
