Melbourne, December 27, : .Simon Katich is an ex-Australian cricketer who believes that the England openers in the Ashes Third Test at MCG are too inexperienced and inexperienced for “a very strong Australian attack” in their home conditions.
He also said there was a problem with their concentration. In the first session of Day 1, Pat Cummins (Australian captain) bowled both England’s openers Haseeb Hameed (0, and Zak Crawley (12) cheaply. They were outdone by the tourists, who couldn’t keep up with either spin or pace and ended up being bundled for 185 after 65.1 innings.
Australia’s reply was also a flop. They were reduced to 196/6 on Day 2 of play.
However, they will likely maintain a good lead heading into the second innings.
Katich played 56 Tests, scoring over 4,000 runs and told Sen.com.au that Monday, “Yesterday” (Sunday), they both were very inexperienced. They’re both young people trying to find their way at Test level. It’s difficult.
They’ve been exposed to a very strong Australian attack.Their conditions are different from what they were used to before. This has caused problems for them, England’s inability (in)ability leave more balls.Katich said, “Especially in bouncy wickets because you can’t play away with yourself in these conditions with extra pace and bounce. That’s what we have seen all through the series.”
England’s three opening openers — Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed — have failed to pick up pace on the bouncy pitches.Their highest opening partnership was 23 runs in the first innings at The Gabba.
Over the first five innings, no opener scored more than 34.All have had an average of less than 15, though Crawley, who is 23 years old, has only played one.
The openers were not firing so Joe Root and Dawid Malan, No.3 batter, have been under immense pressure to save the game.
Katich said, “They’ve fed the slips to Alex Carey and England cricketers.technically they have some problems with their concentrations and letting balls go round off stump.”
