The U.S.government has made a key decision regarding visa applicants in the wake of the Omicron boom.Those wishing to obtain visas in the non-immigrant H1B, H3, L, O, P, Q, etc.categories will be temporarily exempted from personal interviews.This decision will apply throughout the year 2022.
It is useful for professionals, students, athletes and artists traveling from India to America.However, the U.S.State Department said on Thursday it was temporarily giving consular officials the final say in deciding which visa applicants to call for an interview.
Therefore, the U.S.government recommends that visa applicants periodically check the relevant embassy and consulate websites.According to government guidelines, those who have obtained any visa so far, citizens of member countries in the visa waiver program, and those who have previously traveled to the United States under the Electronic System for Travel Authorization will now have the discretion to cancel personal interviews if they apply for visas.
U.S.Consulate officials usually examine applications from different countries for US visas and then interview them in person.Visas will be issued if selected.
However, in the wake of the current Corona crisis, the US government hopes to suspend the interview process in 2022 and further simplify the issuance of visas.
It is understood that the US has already decided to follow the same lottery procedure as in the past when issuing H-1B visas.The U.S.Department of Homeland Security says it will enforce a Northern District of California court order to this effect.During Donald Trump’s presidency, he proposed abolishing the lottery system and issuing H-1V visas on a pay-as-you-go basis.
In line with this, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services has issued guidelines.However, after Joe Biden came to power, the Trump administration decided to suspend the proposal until December 31, 2021.
The Chamber of Commerce has also approached the court over the Trump administration’s proposal.The California District Court, which heard the case, struck down the issue of pay-as-you-go work visas.
