The new privacy update has been available for iOS and Android devices.
WABetaInfo reports that third-party apps can log in to the Google Play Store for Android or Apple App Store for iOS and access information such as ‘online status’ and ‘Last Seen.

WhatsApp now has safeguards in place to prevent such apps accessing data.

WhatsApp now doesn’t display the status and last seen if there have been no chats with other WhatsApp accounts.

WABetaInfo stated that third-party apps cannot view your online status because they don’t have an active conversation with you.

WhatsApp also has a new feature in development that allows users to hide certain information, such as their profile pictures and Last Seen from particular contacts.

WhatsApp has recently revealed that users can now choose to have disappearing messages enabled by default in all chats.

Meta-owned platform stated that they are adding new time periods for messages disappearing: 90 days and 24 hours, in addition to the current option of 7 Days.

“When enabled, all new one-on-one chats you or another person start will be set to disappear at your chosen duration, and we’ve added a new option when creating a group chat that lets you turn it on for groups you create,” WhatsApp said in a statement.

This new feature is optional and does not change or delete any of your existing chats, the company added.
