Jinan, December 13, : , Nine members of their crew died when the cargo ship they were carrying sank off Yantai City in east China’s Shandong Province, according to the Beihai Rescue Bureau of China’s Ministry of Transport.
Early Sunday morning, the cargo ship “Tianfeng369” sank in seawaters 30 nautical miles northeastern of Yantai.
According to Xinhua news agency, 14 crew members were aboard the cargo ship when it was struck by lightning.
At 4:43 AM, the rescue bureau received the report and sent out a helicopter rescue and vessel rescue to assist in the rescue effort.
Rescuers managed to rescue 12 victims from the sea, three of them in stable condition, and nine others with no sign of life.
The rescue and search operation for the remaining two missing crew members is still underway.
The ship is owned by the Tianfeng Marine Shipping Co.Ltd.in Shouguang city, Shandong province.
