This is a government bungalow, which also houses Ms Mehbooba mufti on Gupkar Road.It was anticipated that at least 1000 people would attend the event.
According to the police, “Given Covid’s current situation and the greater security implications that would result from allowing so many people and their accompanying vehicles and cars into high security zones, it wasn’t advisable for such large flows of people and unchecked automobiles.”
The report also stated that vehicle-bound IEDs are being used in credible ways to attack civilians as well as high-security infrastructures.
The Gupkar Road is home to high-security buildings belonging to various security sensitive institutions and intelligence agencies.Police stated that allowing large numbers of vehicles to park in high-security zones would compromise security.
Police said legal orders for necessary restrictions on the convention were passed by the Executive Magistrate, South Srinagar keeping in mind the Covid protocols and security sensitiveness of Gupkar zone.
“It is completely incorrect that Ms Mufti is under house arrest. However, local administration had advised PDP to apply for holding this convention in a more open area in view of Covid-19 and security reasons,” police said.
