Pretoria : , Former South Africa cricket captain AB de Villiers announced Friday that he would be retiring from all forms of cricket.De Villiers continued playing in franchise cricket after his 2018 international retirement.
He played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, (RCB), in the Indian Premier League.Friday marks the conclusion of his decade-long relationship with the franchise.
De Villiers stated in a series tweets that “It’s been an amazing journey but I have decided not to continue playing cricket.” Since the backyard matches I played with my brothers in the 80s, the game has been a joy and a source of unbridled excitement.At 37 years old, the flame has died.
He had been 37 years old when he played in 184 IPL games.
His first stint was with Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils), for 3 seasons.Then, he went on to play for Bangalore for a decade, where a strong partnership formed with Virat Kohli.
He scored 5162 runs, an average of 39.70, and a strike rate of 151.68.This includes three centuries, 40 half-centuries, and five IPL playoffs appearances as RCB player.
“That is the truth I have to accept.Even if it seems sudden, this is why I’m making today’s announcement.It was my turn.I have been extremely blessed by cricket.The game of cricket has provided me with unimaginable experiences and opportunities.I’ll always be thankful, whether it was playing for the Titans or the Proteas or RCB around the globe.
De Villiers was a part of 114 Tests, 228 OCIs, and 78 T20Is in the Proteas.
“I want to thank each teammate, opponent, coach, physio, and staff member that have walked the same road, and I’m humbled by all the support I received in South Africa and India.
“AB de Villiers is one of the most respected ambassadors for the game and it was an honor to have him representing RCB at the IPL.Prathmesh, RCB chairman, stated that his work ethic has been exceptional and has rubbed off on other players.
“AB was a leader on the field as well as off it.We would like to thank him for helping RCB become one of the top franchises in IPL.We wish AB the very best in his future innings.Mishra said that he will be a part of the RCB Family forever.
De Villiers concluded by noting that “Last” would have been impossible without my family, which included my siblings, my parents and Danielle, as well as my children.”I look forward to the next chapter in our lives, when they can really put me first.”
