Chennai, Nov 14, : The heavy rains that have swept through Tamil Nadu’s Kanniyakumari District have caused severe flooding of roads and residential areas.Dams and reservoirs have also been flooded.Radhapuram in Tirunelveli district also experienced heavy downpour and almost all ponds and lakes are full in the area and most of the roads are underwater making travel impossible.Radhapuram, Tirunelveli District also saw heavy downpours.
Nearly all the ponds and lakes in the region are now full.Most roads are submerged making travel difficult.
Train services were halted in the Nagercoil-Tirunelveli line after a landslide between Eraniel and Kuzhithurai led to debris falling on tracks.
The Nagercoil-Tirunelveli National Highway is also flooded with water from the Pazhyar river.Traffic at Nagercoil is at a standstill.Traffic is backed up at Nagercoil.
Although water was discharged from the Pechiparai and Perunchani dams, most houses on the banks of Pazhayar river were inundated.Although water was released from Perunchani and Pechiparai dams, many houses along the banks of the Pazhayar river were submerged.
Water resources department officials of Tamil Nadu said that the level of water is rising in Pazhayar river.Officials from Tamil Nadu’s water resources department stated that the river Pazhayar is experiencing an increase in water levels.
Meanwhile, water from Mettur dam was released on Sunday morning after the height touched the maximum capacity of 120 feet.After the Mettur dam reached its maximum capacity of 120 feet, the water was released from Mettur Dam on Sunday morning.
