The Andhra Pradesh state government has shifted its focus on cracking down on cannabis cultivation on the Andhra-Odisha border (AOB).
Special teams have been deployed to crack down on cannabis cultivation in AOB.The police department has launched ‘Operation Parivarthan’ as per the directions of CM YS Jagan to curb cannabis cultivation and smuggling in AP.
Authorities are raising awareness among the tribes on the ill effects of cannabis.Field teams have been wreaking havoc on cannabis cultivation for the past five days in the border areas of Odisha and Chhattisgarh bordering the Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts.SEB, with the coordination of the Departments of Forestry, Revenue and Tribal Welfare, is striving to end cannabis cultivation.
SEB identified extensive cannabis cultivation areas in the agency zones of Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts as well as in the states of Odisha and Chhattisgarh across the state border.All of those areas were videotaped with drone cameras.
In the past five days, authorities have carried out extensive raids and destroyed 550 acres of cannabis plantations.SEB sources said that so far, 21 lakh cannabis plants have been destroyed and set on fire.SEB officials estimate the value at Rs 104.25 crore.
