Andhra police are extensively cracking down on cannabis smuggling in the state.They are conducting thorough searches in vehicles moving from the Visakhapatnam agency area to Telangana.

East Godavari district police have recently seized cannabis worth Rs 2 crore being smuggled from Odisha to Telangana.

CI Yuvakumar and SI Sattibabu inspected the vehicle based on information from reliable sources that cannabis was being smuggled through the Sukumamidi forest area under the purview of the Motugudem police station.

As a part of their inspections, police found a van carrying a load of coconuts.While inspecting, they found cannabis bags under the coconuts.

The accused were Kadium Gurusagar of Telangana, Pogidala Parvathalu and Naini Rama Rao of Odisha were arrested.Police seized 2,000 kg of cannabis, a van and a car from the accused.

The ASP said checkpoints were being set up across the agency to crack down on the smuggling of cannabis.

On the other hand, locals cut down cannabis plants in two villages under Gummarevula panchayat in the Vizag agency.

Tribals are voluntarily destroying cannabis plantations in their villages with awareness programs undertaken by the state government and the police department.
