AP police arrested the most wanted international red sandalwood smuggler Ramanatha Reddy.Ramanatha Reddy was arrested by the police while smuggling a large quantity of red sandalwood on the Kuppam-Krishnagiri highway.
Police have been tracking Ramanathareddy for some time.
Also, the police were looking for his men.As the police received information from reliable sources that red sandalwood logs were being smuggled, the police inspected the vehicles on the national highway this morning.
Police intercepted a vehicle carrying red sandalwood logs worth about Rs 50 lakh.
On this occasion, Ramanatha Reddy and three of his workers were also arrested.Police have seized the Red sandalwood logs and the vehicle.
There are allegations that the locals are supporting the red sandalwood smugglers.More recently, attacks have been rampant, and forests are being cut down.The timber is being smuggled.The red sandalwood smugglers continue to smuggle intermittently despite strict measures being taken by local leaders.
In recent times, Chittoor police seized many vehicles smuggling red sandalwood to other states.Despite strict measures, the smugglers are still smuggling the red sandalwood.
