Huge gunfire broke out between the security forces and Maoists in Chhattisgarh.It is learned that the incident took place on Saturday afternoon in the Terram area of Bijapur.
So far 22 soldiers have been killed and 31 others have been seriously injured.A total of 15 Maoists, including a woman Maoist, were killed during the firing.
Clashes between the security forces and Maoists continued on Sunday as well.However, the news that some more soldiers have disappeared is alarming.
Police officials say the death toll is likely to rise in the wake of this.
The injured have been shifted to local hospitals for treatment.
Doctors said the condition of some of them was critical.The soldiers in critical condition were being shifted to the Raipur hospital for better treatment.
Even more worrying is that 24 soldiers were found missing after the firing.Additional forces were deployed in the field.
Chhattisgarh DGP DM Awasthi said there were 760 soldiers on the spot at that time.He said it was likely to take another six hours to know the full details of the incident.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah inquired about the incident.Prime Minister Modi and Chhattisgarh CM mourned the death of soldiers.
