New Delhi, December 30, : .The Centre will declare 100 districts as “Drug Sensitized Districts” by August 2020 as part of its effort to eradicate substance abuse in the country.The Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry released a statement saying that the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA),” was established in August 2020 to address the problem of drug abuse in India.It will be launched in 272 of the most dangerous areas in India.
These districts are identified based on findings of the Comprehensive National Survey as well as inputs from the Narcotics Control Bureau.It stated that the Abhiyaan is three-pronged and includes supply curbing by the Narcotics Control Bureau and outreach and awareness and reduction of demand effort by Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry.Also, treatment via the Health Ministry.
A wide variety of activities were conducted across the country since the launch to encourage participation by all sectors of society.
“To date, the Abhiyaan has reached 1.4 million people in identified districts through various activities.” The ministry stated that more than 45 lakh youth actively took part in Abhiyaan activities.
Over 30 million students across the country have participated in events, competitions, and sessions organized by more than 55,000 educational institutions, including schools and colleges.
“Master volunteers were selected to be trained and qualified to oversee the Abhiyaan activities within the identified 272 districts.” The ministry stated that a strong network of more than 8,000 master volunteers is actively involved in Abhiyaan activities.
The Ministry also created a mobile application to collect data about the on-ground activities.
The ministry stated that in order to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav the Ministry had planned to designate 100 districts as “Drug Sensitised Districtors” from August 2021 through August 2022 according to defined parameters.
