New Delhi, Sep 1 : Meta-owned WhatsApp has banned more than 23 lakh accounts that were deemed to be fraudulent in India in July in conformity with the new IT Rules, 2021, the company announced on Thursday.
WhatsApp also received 574 complaints information in the month of July in India and the data “actioned” included 27.

The platform with more than 400 million registered users in the country was blocked more than 22 lakh accounts with bad ratings in June.

“In conformity with the IT Rules 2021, we’ve released our monthly report on the month of July 2022.As reported in the most recent report, WhatsApp banned over 2.3 million accounts (2,387,000) in the month of July,” a company spokesperson stated.

Released in conformity with the rules of 4(1)(d) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021.The report included details on the actions of WhatsApp in context of the complaints from users in India.

The complaints were received through the grievance mechanisms as well as accounts.were acted upon through its detection and prevention methods to ensure that they did not violate the law of the country or its conditions of service.

Under the revised IT Rules 2021, major social and digital media platforms with in more than of five million users are required to release each month compliance reports.
