In the lead-up to the Assembly elections in Hyderabad, theres a significant population of people who have moved from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions to Hyderabad.
This group of settlers is being actively courted by various political parties for their votes.
The recent arrest of Chandrababu Naidu, along with protests from IT employees and settlers from Andhra, has become a major political issue in Hyderabad. While the ruling party, BRS, has been cautious and hasnt commented much on Naidus arrest, Telanganas Food & Civil Supplies Minister, Gangula Kamalakar, has made some alarming remarks.
He has once again brought up the sentiment between Telangana and Andhra.Furthermore, he issued a warning to Andhra voters, suggesting they would be asked to leave the state if they support the Congress party.
Kamalakar stated, "Once again, people from Andhra seem inclined to enter Telangana through the Congress party. If anyone from the Andhra settlers supports or votes for Congress, we’ll expel you." These comments are forthright and can be seen as a direct threat. This behavior is against the rules and guidelines set by the Election Commission.
Given that the election code is currently in effect after the ECs announcement of the schedule, it remains to be seen whether the EC will take action on Kamalakars comments on its own.Such provocative statements have the potential to incite violence and lead to unfortunate incidents.
