The main Taiwanese party’s official visit to China despite the recent tensions

Taipei 11 Aug : Taiwans largest opposition party has dispatched an official group to China despite ongoing tensions caused by military exercises conducted carried out by the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) in the regionThe group led by Andrew Hsia, vice chairman of Taiwans opposition Kuomintang (KMT) was escorted by Andrew Hsia, vice chairman of Taiwans Ku for China on Wednesday.

according to the news agency dpa.According to KMT the trip was a long-planned visit for the purpose of meeting Taiwanese businessmen as well as certain nationals who are living or studying in China in China, mostly in the southern coastal provinces like Fujian and Zhejiang and the Pearl River Delta in Guangdong Province.The appointments in Beijing arent scheduled.

In China the quarantine time for the group headed by Hsia will end on August 21 following which they will be back in Taiwan on the 27th of August.The trip has caused controversy because Taiwan has been under attack due to Beijings latest economic and military campaign against Taiwan in response to the trip to Taipei by the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.

Taiwans president Tsai Ing-wen was unhappy with the KMTs visit "At this point the KMT continues to insist that it will go to China and is causing a lot of disappointment to our people.The way they conduct themselves is sending a wrong message to the world community," Tsai said on Wednesday afternoon, at a gathering of her Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

The KMT has historically maintained closer relations with the Chinese government than the DPP, the government in power.DPP that leans toward independence.
