Thiruvananthapuram on the 11th of September : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who is currently on the ‘Bharat Jodo Yotra which runs starting from Kanniyakumari to Kashmir was involved in another incident on Sunday when he did not attend a party for the the inauguration of the memorials of two famous Gandhians of Kerala.Both Gandhians Gopinathan and K.E.Maman are highly regarded in the State of.
Rahul Gandhi was passing by the Noorul Islam Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Neyyatinkara in the course of his Yatra and the organizers of the Kerala part of the trip had decided that he would open the memorials of the two Gandhians constructed in the hospital’s premises.The hospital took care of both Gandhians in their medical emergency.
While Gandhi moved in the direction of the NIMS hospital, he did not stop to open the memorials.
The incident caused controversy because family members and friends of both Gandhians which included the wife of late Gopinathan Nair, were waiting at the hospital premises to attend the event.
The state unit president of Congress K.Sudhakaran later apologised for the mistake and assured the NIMS Director of Management that a separate ceremony was planned to mark the occasion.
MP Shashi Tharoor has criticized Gandhi for not attending the event, stating: “Such things affect the credibility.”
