Nearly 150,000 high school students from Vietnam’s Covid-19 hotspot have returned to school

Ho Chi Minh City, December 13 : .Nearly 150,000 students in Vietnam’s south Ho Chi Minh City, the largest Covid-19 hotspot of Vietnam, went back to school Monday following a period when they had to learn online because of pandemic restrictions.
If students of these grades test positive for Covid-19 and live in high risk areas, they will not be staying in the city.They can continue their education online according to the guidelines set by the city’s Health Sector.

HCMC has 205 high schools.176 of these would be open for 12th-graders back.In the meantime, a total of 224 secondary schools, out of 286 located in southern cities, would be open to 9th-graders.

The city is offering in-person classes to 9th and 12th graders starting Monday, December 25.After that time more students will be able to return to school.

Between late October and early December, the southern city finished inoculating more than 709,600 children aged 12-17 years, according to the municipal centre for disease control.

HCMC is now Vietnam’s largest Covid hotspot with nearly 488,000 infections and 18,750 deaths as of Sunday, as per the data from the country’s Ministry of Health.
