New Delhi, Aug 12 : Senior India opener Shikhar Dhawan has stated that his main focus is 2023’s ICC Men’s ODI World Cup and he will play as many games as he can in India prior to the big event in order to remain fit and be well prepared.
In an interview Dhawan discussed his plans to concentrate on the World Cup in India next year.

The left-handed opener who has played a major player for India in ICC events in the past, explained his appreciation for how he is enjoying playing in international tournaments and the pleasure he gets from it.

“I am a fan of playing in ICC tournaments.There’s always a distinct sensation and feeling of satisfaction, and I’ve played in some excellent tournaments in the past.I plan and approach every tournament in the same manner,” Dhawan told Times of India.

“Every time I don the Indian jersey the pressure is always there and the good thing is that as a professional I am able to deal with the pressure.The excitement is definitely helpful, because it boosts the motivation of my game.

I don’t feel overwhelmed at the moment, as my process, focus and preparation is identical for every tournament I’m playing in,” he added.

The 36-year-old has said that he hopes to play “as as many games as can be played” for India in the lead-up to the marquee tournament at home next year in order to perform at his all in the biggest event.

“My main focus is the 50-overs tournament next year.World Cup and for that I’d like to take part in as many games as I can in India and be successful in these matches.

In between, there’s the IPL also so I’ll be trying to continue to be successful in that and also look forward to playing the Indian one-day and T20 matches, and stay fit and ready,” Dhawan said.

Dhawan who helped lead India to an ODI series win of 3-0 in West Indies, will serve as a his replacement for KL Rahul in the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe.

He declared that his style of captaincy is to remain “cool and aggressive”.

“Captaining India is always an honor.

My philosophy for captaincy is to be cool and assertive – – aggressive from the inside, but cool from the outside” the batter who is left handed said.

“I would like my team to have fun playing on the field yet maintain the intensity throughout the game, and to have fun being part of Team India.

I love mentoring young players and passing on knowledge that helps to enhance the qualities of a leader in me,” he added.
