Chennai, December 13, 2013 : .The Madras High Court ordered Monday a post-mortem exam of the corpse of an accused in murder after his wife submitted a petition claiming that he had died from torture while being held in judicial custody.M.Srinivasan, who was being held on a murder accusation by police was taken into police custody and lodged at Puzhal central jail.S.Janisirani, the wife of M.Srinivasan, filed a petition to the court of the judicial magistrate.She requested a post-mortem examination by a group of physicians, including her preferred doctor.
She was asked by the magistrate to make a proper plea.
Advocate R.Sankarasubbu, counsel sought that the post-mortem examination is conducted by a family doctor.A.Damodaran, Additional Public Prosecutor, opposed this request.He argued that the post mortem examination could only be performed by a government physician in the presence of a petitioner.
Justice T.V.sat on a single bench Thamilselvi directed that the post-mortem examination should be performed in the presence Dr.Bekal from Meenakshi Medical College Kancheepuram.
