K’taka sees rise in dengue cases, health department on alert

Bengaluru : November 19, 2009 - At a moment when Karnataka is performing exceptionally well in managing Covid-19, the increasing number of cases of dengue have left the health department concerned and searching for solutionsConcerns have been raised by the sudden increase in dengue cases of 84%.

Up to September, the state had already recorded 2,987 cases of dengue.

After heavy rains and other untimely events, 2,516 cases of dengue were reported to the state by November 17.The health department reported that more than 1 lakh tests for dengue symptoms were performed in India this year, with Bengaluru accounting for over 40%.In Bengaluru, there have been more than 1,038 dengue cases in the last 2021.The November month saw 117 people test positive.

After Bengaluru, Shivamogga district reported 393, followed by Kalaburgi (386), Udupi (312) and Koppal (278), health department sources explain.Officials from the health department explain that dengue is caused by incessant rains and water stagnation points.

In October, five dengue-related deaths were recorded from the Dakshina Kannada and Chamarajanagar districts of Ramanagara.In coordination with the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programmes, (NVBDCP), and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palikes (BBMP), the Health Department has initiated precautionary measures.
