Ratnagiri Hapus mangoes came into the market earlier this year.Known as the ‘King of the Konkan’, these mangoes fetch around four dozen rupees in the Pune market.Traders say it is selling for 15k.Generally, the Ratnagiri Hapus mangoes are available for Makara Sankranthi every year.However, they came into the market earlier this year.Marketers said it arrived in the first week of January due to climate change.
There is still two to three months to go before the start of this fruit season across the country.Traders said mangoes have not come into the market for the past two years due to corona.
This year, however, Ratnagiri varieties of mangoes have arrived earlier, said Mander Desai, owner of Desai Brothers shop in Pune.We hope that more people will show interest in buying mangoes this year.Demand also increased during this period.The last two years have seen a difference between supply and demand due to the corona.
This time too the cases are on the rise.Imposing a lock-down is likely to affect supply by about 10 to 15 percent.
