The latest reports revealed that the forest cover in Telangana increased gradually since the bifurcation of joint Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has taken the initiative to turn Telangana into a green state, said Aasannagari Jeevan Reddy, Chairman of Legislative Public Undertaking Committee (PUC).
Speaking on this occasion, Jeevan Reddy said that the seventh phase of the Telanganaku Harithaharam initiative is currently going on.He said that already, the six phases were successful.He said that the forest cover in Telangana, which was 23 per cent when it was in the joint state, has now increased to 28 per cent.
Recently, a PUC meeting was held on issues such as greenery and forest cover in the Assembly Committee Hall.Also, he said that the state government targetted to plant 230 crore plants and already 225 crore plants were planted.
MLC Puranam Satish said that the rulers in the joint state had provided support to the timber smugglers and that the CM KCR had brought stringent laws to curb their activities.Ramagundam MLA Korukanti Chandar said that the greenery was successful because the people were participating in the spirit of the movement.
