China also introduced brushes to our world over 600 years ago.On June 26, 1498, the first Chinese king patented a toothbrush.The world’s first toothbrush made of pig hair.The brussels sprouts on this toothbrush were very tight.These brussels sprouts are made with thick hair on the back of the pig’s neck.These hairs are tied to a bamboo stick and made like a toothbrush.
Until the 20th century, these brushes were imported from Europe and England by China.These brushes were used until the discovery of William Edis, a prisoner of England in 1780.

After his release from prison, Edis started a company called Wisdom Toothbrush, which started manufacturing brushes in Britain.The company manufactures 70 million toothbrushes a year.
DuPont de Nemors introduced nylon bristle toothbrushes to the world in 1950.On November 7, 1857, HN Woodsworth became the first American to patent a toothbrush.
