Panaji 3 Sep : Goa Congress President Amit Patkar has said that Goa is headed towards a ‘Jungle-Rail’ style of government like Uttar Pradesh (as crimes are being committed) and if this trend continues, the BJP government will declare Goa “Gangs of Wasseypur’. “Had you heard of shootings taking place in Goa.The state is now moving in the opposite direction.Governance has completely fallen apart.
We are headed towards a ‘Jungle’ Raj similar to Uttar Pradesh, if this persists, then the BJP government will call Goa “Gangs of Wasseypur”,” he added while speaking at the press conference in Panaji on Friday.
In reference to the incidents of the alleged murder of Haryana BJP leader Sonali Phogat as well as an incident of firing in which an employee of sand extraction was killed in Curchorem in the south of Goa in Goa on Wednesday night, Patkar said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant must be transparent about the incident of criminal acts that took place, or he should quit.
“Law and order have not been followed in Goa,” he added.
“This isn’t a popular tourist spot. This is a ‘Jungle Raj’ destination. The shooting of Sonali Phogat’s shooting and the shootout at Curchorem have proven the law and order is deteriorating in Goa,” he declared.
“Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is in an imaginary world. He does not know what is happening in the State.
The Home Minister isn’t giving the necessary freedom to Police to function or that the Police department isn’t functioning effectively. There is a lot of anxiety and fear in the public. We’ve never ever heard of shootings in Goa however, this is now taking place,” Patkar added.
Goa Chief Minister who also is the head of the Home department has come under fire by the Opposition due to the number of crimes taking occuring in Goa.
The Goa Congress President said that Police are trying to deflect the issue of shootouts by detaining certain individuals for illegal mining of sand at Curchorem.
“Why no action was taken against mining illegally across the stateand and why only action was initiated in Curchorem.
It is evident that the police are trying to avoid the issue of shootouts,” he added.
According to Patkar police should have detained those who killed the Sand extraction worker.
A Sand extraction worker from Jharkhand was killed and another was seriously injured in an incident of firing Wednesday evening in Curchorem in the south of Goa.
Patkar stated that the BJP government is accountable for the illegal mining of sand that are taking place in the state since ore mining was stopped.
“After BJP suspended the mining business in Goa the affected parties sought alternatives in mining sand. Why aren’t we the BJP creating (sand mining) legal.
It appears that illegal business helps Ministers and MLA’s benefit from of the process,” he added.
