Ramakrishna aka Rickey (Akhil Akkineni) is a hyperactive youngster who wishes to be a spy but is rejected three times by the RAW.So, he hacks RAW chief Mahadev aka The Devil’s (Mammootty) system to get noticed by him.
Finally, The Devil secretly appoints him on a mission to find the action plan of God (Dino Morea) who planned something big to destroy India. Is Ricky successful in his mission? What is the real mission and who is the God actually? forms the story.
Akhil makes larger-than-life action fare with Agent. He sports a six-pack and has a different hairdo making him look stylish and cool on screen.
We can all see the physical effort for sure. When it comes to acting, Akhil gets a whacky, wild characterisation in Agent.
It is a mixed bag, as only bits and pieces of it work. Some might like it more (depending on individual preference), but even then, it doesn’t work in its entirety.
The reason is Akhil fails to impress in the bigger mass moments. The challenges with the villain, the warning, the intensity in heavy scenes, and the loudness associated with commercial cinema, in general, are where Akhil is yet to arrive.
Leaving those moments, the lighter scenes show a visible improvement, and the lively body language is a positive sign.Sakshi Vaidya, a newcomer, has good looks, but she only appears in two songs and two scenes.Thats all.Mammootty, a legendary Malayalam superstar, is fantastic as a RAW agent. He adds gravitas to the otherwise dull proceedings.
Bollywood actor Dino Morea is well-cast as the antagonist God, but the role lacks any strength.Varalakshmi Sarathkumar is wasted in an insignificant role.Sampath and Sathya are alright.
Director Surender Reddy succeeded in utilising the full potential of Akhil. He showcased him so well and unleashed the mass angle of the actor.
However, he failed to narrate the story well in the second half, which needs to be quite engaging after a good first half. The writing is inadequate.Another flaw is the editing.
Visual effects look cheap despite spending a lot of money.Rasools cinematography is adequate.
Hiphop Thamizhas music, on the other hand, doesnt add much to the film. Its easily forgotten.
