By Manigandan K.R.Chennai 7 Aug : Aamir Khan on Sunday said that Atul Kulkarni’s fantastic adaptation of the classic Hollywood film “Forrest Gump” was the inspiration behind him to create “Laal Singh Chaddha”.
Aamir said to IANS: “Around 14 years ago, Atul Kulkarni, who is the author of the adaptation and I were talking one night.He was asking me ‘What’s your most loved film? I replied that “Forrest Gump” was one of the films.I listed a few others too.We ended up talking about this film , and the evening ended.He went home, and I didn’t remember about it.
“Two weeks later, he called me up and said that I had written screenplay for you.So, I replied”But you’re not an author’.He replied, ‘Yes.But I’ve tried to write , and I have done it.’ I asked”What if I wrote it in two weeks What do you think? And he replied”Yes”.He stated, ‘I’ve created an adaptation of “Forest Gump”.’
“At the beginning, I began laughing.”Forrest Gump” is such an iconic film that you wouldn’t think of even trying making a remake.Plus , he’s accomplished it in just two weeks.And this is the very first script he has written.
“So I didn’t consider it seriously.It was actually my fault that I didn’t consider it serious.
I didn’t discover it until after two years (had been).When I first was introduced to Atul’s narration, I immediately fell in love with it.”
“I loved it so much.executed.
What is it that makes a film like “Forrest Gump that is so deeply in its roots in American culture, be made in another culture? I couldn’t understand.But Atul showed me how.It was Atul’s adaption that inspired me to try it,” Aamir added.
The film stars Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the leading roles, is set to release on the 11th of August.
