Parents who are heavily dependent on their phones while caring for kids at home

Seoul 10th of September : A large majority of parents in South Korea were found to heavily rely on tablets or smartphones in the care of their children as they carry out their everyday tasks at home A poll revealed on SaturdayThis is indicative of the countrys increasing smartphone addiction in the young generation.

In a survey carried out by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education on 1,500 parents with children aged between 1 and 7 years old, 70.2 percent said that they have given phones to their children in the home to help with everyday chores without interruptions.The survey, which was conducted in August of last year was conducted in an article published in the last few days by the institute as reported by Yonhap news agency.Of those who responded, 74.3 per cent said they showed their smartphones at their children in order to keep them calm in public areas, whereas 52 percent of respondents mentioned educational reasons.According to the survey the percentage of children who first became exposed to technology when they were of 12-18 months was 20.5 percent followed by the proportion of youngsters aged 18 to 24 months, which was 13.4 percent.The average tablet or smartphone use time of children was 55.3 minutes during the week.The weekend average was 97.6 minutes in accordance with the survey.The results of the survey reflect the nations growing smartphone addiction problem among teenagers.According to a study conducted by the Ministry of Science and ICT in 2020, 35.8 per cent of teens and 27.3 percent of children aged between 3 and 9 were found to be at risk of being at high risk of excessive reliance on smartphones.na/ .
