Los Angeles, Sep 9 : The musician Elton John has turned down “head-spinning” offers to dispose his old catalog.Deciding against following in the footsteps of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen by transferring the rights to some of his most popular songs the 75-year-old singer says he does not need the money, and he “cares deeply” about his music as reported by aceshowbiz.com.
“He is passionate about his music, and the entire idea of losing control over this vital aspect of his life is something he isn’t willing to entertain currently,” Elton’s husband, David Furnish, said.
“Unless you really, truly required the money, then why would you leave now? You’re effectively losing out of the game when you sell your publication. It’s a shame since we’re having so much pleasure celebrating his work and the possibilities that new media provides.”
The singer plans to stop touring next July , after more than 300 shows.David and his two sons Zachary 11 and Elijah 9 with his wife – insists Elton will not be pursuing the possibility of a long-term stay in one specific location although he could still be performing shows that are “one-off” performances.
He said to The i paper “We’re two of us finding it more difficult to leave our children. We’ve spent lots of time together in lockdown. It was a blessing as well as a blessing because it strengthened the bond we share with our children deeply.”
“I think it bans residency programs too. This isn’t in the updated business plan.He would like to make a huge break. This doesn’t mean he can’t have the possibility of a one-time deal, or even entering a different kind of venue to try something different than the way we’ve previously done it.”
However, the couple hasn’t thought of going after ABBA and bringing an Elton hologram to the stage.
David who is the the CEO of Elton’s Rocket Entertainment group – said: “I’m desperate to see the show ‘Abba Voyage.Anything can be done with the new technology and 3.0 is the way to go.We’ll sit down and discuss it following the show.”
“Right now, you can hear the real Elton performing and singing live with more passion than he’s done before. We do not want to take the spotlight off of that.”
After the tour has ended, David and Elton will also be taking steps to safeguard the “Honky Cat” artist’s extensive record and art collections and iconic stage costumes.
David stated: “Those things need to be in the right place. We have a wonderful connection with the V A, and we have been a part of an exhibition of photography there.
We could also develop an ongoing Elton museum, or even a tour exhibition, using the most recent technology. The choice is yours.”
