New Delhi, Sep 6 : India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who was exiled of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 due to injury, underwent knee surgery on Tuesday. The 33-year-old took to social networks to update followers on his injury, stating that the surgery was successful and he was getting back to normal in the near future.
“The procedure was successful. Many people are to be commended for their assistance and participation -for example, the BCCI my teammates, BCCI and support personnel doctors, physiotherapists, physiotherapists as well as the supporters.I’ll start my rehab soon and hope to be back to playing as soon as soon as I can.Thank everyone for their thoughtful wishes.” Jadeja wrote on Instagram as well with his photo.
The all-rounder played in the opening two games of the current Asia Cup against Pakistan and Hong Kong before he was exiled of the tournament on Friday.
He helps the team with the balance that is needed together with Hardik Pandya with his versatility and played a vital role in India’s victory over Pakistan.
When playing Pakistan, Jadeja first gave only 11 runs in the two overs he bowled, and was elevated to No.4.in India’s chase of 148, specifically because he was the sole left-handed batter in India’s top seven.
He scored an important 35 off 29 balls in an all-round partnership of 52 runs with Hardik Pandya, putting India at the brink of victory.Pandya was able to finish it off after Jadeja lost to Mohammad Nawaz in the first ball of the final over.
On the other hand, the left-handed batsman did not get the chance to play against Hong Kong.
When bowling he was able to dismiss top scorer Babar Hayat and only allowed 15 runs in the four overs.
This isn’t the first time Jadeja is afflicted with his right knee.
The same injury caused him to pull out of the ODI phase of India’s tour of the West Indies in July.Axar Patel was invited to join the Indian team from the reserves to replace Jadeja in Asia Cup but hasn’t played a match yet.
There’s no information on the length of time Jadeja will require to get back to fully fit. But, India coach Rahul Dravid was not keen on ruling Jadeja out of the T20 World Cup, to be played in Australia in October and November.
“The World Cup is still quite a ways off so we’re not trying take any sweeping conclusions and exclude him from the tournament or even rule him in.We’ll wait and see what happens,” Dravid had said before India’s Super Fours game against Pakistan on Sunday.
“Injuries are a normal part of the sport. It is a part of our task to prevent them.Much depends on the rehab process and the degree of the injury.I would not think he’s out, but I do I wish to make any statements until we’ve got more clear picture of the situation and a more accurate understanding about the World Cup is six or seven weeks away,” he added.
