Turkish Prez warns Greece over ‘harassment’ of Turkish jets

Ankara Sep 4, : Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has issued a warning against Greece regarding what Ankara calls the recent “harassment” of Turkish fighter jets in the Aegean and eastern Mediterranean.
“Hey Greek, look at the history.Return to the past.If you do it to far it will cost you lots.There is only one sentence for Greece and don’t forget about Izmir,” Erdogan said on Saturday at the aerospace and technology festival Teknofest in the Black Sea province of Samsun.

He was talking about the departure of the Greek army from the western province of Turkey of Izmir in the course of Turkey’s Independence War in 1922, Xinhua news agency reported.

“Occupying the islands is not mean we are bound.We’ll do whatever we need to do when the time arrives.We could appear suddenly in the middle of the night,” he added.

Turkey recently has accused Greece of assaulting twice Turkish jets operating NATO missions in the Aegean and Mediterranean.

Ankara claimed that the Greek warplanes had locked their radars to Turkish F-16s on August 22 and 24 Then Athens did not believe the claims.

Relations between two NATO allies have been at war over a variety of issues that include energy and maritime disagreements in the Aegean and the Mediterranean.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also initiated a military-to-military conflict resolution mechanism that binds Turkey and Greece However, talks within this mechanism have been held back until the conclusion of the fourth round.
