About 25L of domestic customers in Punjab received a “zero” electricity charges

Chandigarh 3rd Sep : About 25 lakh residents in Punjab have been billed a “zero bill for electricity the state’s Power Minister Harbhajan Singh announced on Saturday.
The minister also told the media in Amritsar that this is the first time that the government has been able to fulfill the promises made during elections in the very first year of its existence, “otherwise governments have been making promises to voters only in the final year of their term”.

He said that because of the relief offered by the Punjab government of 300 units per month, the monthly electricity costs of 25 lakh household consumers of the state are “zero”.

He stated that no caste, or religious belief has been established as an basis for the scheme to amnesty electricity but any household member who consumes 600 units of electricity in two months will be given a an electricity bill that is ‘zero.

If one consumes greater amounts of electricity than this, he will have to pay the total electricity bill.

The Minister of Power also stated that in connection with the two-month circle of bills with electricity, consumers receive 600 units of free electricity that is more than what is required of every typical household.

He stated that due to the electricity waiver offered beginning on July 1 of this year, of the bills that have come in August, out of the charges that been issued in August 25 lakh customers will not be required to pay for the bill.

The minister stated that, out of the total of 72 million domestic consumers bills were issued to 42 lakh people out of which 25 lakh families have not received bills.

In addition 34 lakh households have benefited from benefits of electricity that is subsidised at just Rs 3 for each unit.
